Prolonged exposure time?

Hi,

Is there any way to prolong the exposure time to, say 1 second or so? (sure there would be only 1 fps, but sill useful for various scenarios).

Hey Chuck, that’s a good idea. I know lot of people that use webcams for astronomy could use this camera for its good quality image. They usually require long exposure time to reduce noise and capture dim objects. I am planning on adding lower frame rates as well including something like 1fps.

In the mean time, you could try this:
Setup a camera to grab at 15fps for 1 second and store these frames (in memory or disk). Then find the average value for every pixel across all of the frames. Since the exposure is the integration over time, this will effectively give you the exposure of 1 second.

but what if the image is really dark ( R=G=B=0 at 1/15 sec ) average would be 0. If the exposure is done in hardware, then it could be RGB=5 or so, couldn’t it?

The new SDK will among other enhancements feature long exposure times (up to 10sec @ VGA). It will be out soon.

Hi there - sorry to grave dig this thread, but is there an update on this?
I’ve tried the most recent SDK and the lowest frame rate/longest exposure I can set is 1 fps at VGA (raw bayer). If I choose a frame rate lower than this I get a corrupt image. Is it possible for me to set a say 10 second exposure?
