Is it possible to record with the camera without using a computer?

I bought a double ended female USB adapter so I can plug my 16GB USB drive into one end and my PS3eye camera into the other end.

Would it be possible to record at high FPS using this type of method?  Is there an alternative that doesn’t require a netbook, tablet, or a laptop to be lugged around?

I do not believe this is possible… something has to run software that captures and writes to the disk.

Out of curiosity, what would provide electricity to this configuration?  There would be no connection to anything powered unless the USB drive is powered.
