Hi, I’ve been trying to install the driver beginner driver on my PC for a while now, and am having no success. It gets about halfway done and then attempts to download something, followed by a message saying “resolving hostname” and then it aborts the whole process. I had the old driver from the blog, which now redirects here, and it worked at first, but I had an issue and removed the driver and the program. Any help would be appreciated.
Well that’s just it, I turned off the firewall and my antivirus program while installing, and it still gives me the same message. My computer has internet access, as I am currently typing this message as well as the previous one from it, so I don’t think that’s the problem. If it helps to get a solution faster, when installing, I noticed the first step takes awfully long when compared to the installation video. I don’t really want to put a step by step procedure of what happens, but if no one can help me figure it out, I will do so.
Again, any help is appreciated, welcome, and requested.

AgentDv1,
You might have an issue with your DNS. Open your command prompt and type: ‘ping codelaboratories.com’
Does it resolve the IP? What Windows OS version are you running on?

Tells me the request timed out 4 times, followed by a message stating that it sent 4 packets, received none, and lost 4 for a 100% loss. I’m running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I should also say I’m no computer tech, so any suggestions (even simplistic ones) are appreciated.
Please help me out. I am still unable to download the drivers during installation. Is there any other way to get the drivers???
Are you using any proxy server for your connection? We specifically went to online installer route in order to easier track files and keep them up to date. If you are able to download files from browsers you should be able to download them with the installer. Are you using ie or some other browser?
I’m using Firefox, and I am having no problem downloading the driver package, but while installing, I get the hostname resolving message still, and then it aborts the installation. I don’t know for sure if I am using a proxy connection, how can I check this?

The proxy settings should be under your Firefox network setttings. If the proxy is enabled you will see a server name or ip.
Another thing, when you run IE can you browse the web? Our installer uses standard windows settings to autodetect and use when downloading driver components. Firefox does not, therefore, even changing these proxy settings in Firefox will not change anything.
So I would try to run IE and see if you can access and browse the web and get to our site. If you can, then I would look into Internet options in IE and see if any proxy servers are defined. If that’s the case, we will look into replicating your situation here and testing this out and finding a fix.
I’d like to try help you too…I’ve been trying to figure out what could be wrong with yours.
I can succesfully install my drivers no problems what so ever, I have tested again today to make sure.
Although I can install successfully (contacts driver download server correctly) for some reason the ping still fails just as yours does,
But I’d like you to try the following as its another way to detect if you can successfully contact the download servers.
Open your command prompt and type: telnet ip-64-250-227-227.lasvegas.net http
If the screens appears black with a flashing cursor (And/OR weird characters) at the top left of the Command Prompt, this means that you can successfully connect to the download servers.
However if the result is ‘Connect failed’ , this would probably mean that it may be a problem with the configuratino on your side i.e your firewall/windows firewall/routers firewall may be interfering, you could be using a Proxy server etc….
You can use this as a quick test instead of pinging or re-installing driver once you modify any connection/firewall settings.
Also it would be worth it to try this too:
Open your command prompt and type: ipconfig /displaydns
check if there are any entries relating to ip-64-250-227-227.lasvegas.net or codelaboratories.com
then
Open your command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns
I tried the command line thing you mentioned, and my results were different then either of the ones you described. At first, it gave me a blank screen with a flashing underscore on the top left of the screen, and after a minute of waiting, I tried typing exit to leave, which then flooded my screen with a bunch of lines of text and then ended with a Connection to host lost.
Continuing with your suggestions, I had tried the flushdns command a coupled days earlier when it was mentioned that it may have been a dns issue, with no success.
I’m going to attempt to give a detailed description of what I’ve done since I attempted to start using my PS3 eye on my PC. Hopefully, you guys can decipher something from it.
Alright, first thing I did was I attempted (successfully) to use an older version of AlexP’s PS3 eye driver, which while using, told me I had no video capturing program. the original purpose of using the camera had been for basically screen capturing on my computer in order to record video game playing I did. after a number of failed attempts, I finally found a program that would allow me to directly stream what was on my screen to a website (ustream.com). However, it was all very sloppy and laggy, so I axed the whole process, uninstalling all the previous programs I had installed and deleting them, including the PS3 eye program I had originally downloaded from the blog. This was about 2 weeks ago. Now, the camera was still being recognized as an audio source, which I figure has nothing to do with the video drivers but tried to uninstall its drivers anyway. Having done that now, anytime I plug the camera back in, it asks to look for the drivers again, which i don’t have now, so I cancel that. Getting to my current situation, I now downloaded the CLeyedriver.exe file from this site, and when I attempt to run the execute file (having turned off my windows and router firewall), I get to the downloading of the drivers, which never starts, and then the message prompt “resolving hostname”, ending with my current situation. In the top of the window, it says the process gets aborted without successful completion.
Another thing i’d like to point out, in most of the tutorials, it always says to keep the eye camera unplugged while installing the drivers. However, when I attempt to run the execute file, it says make sure the eye is plugged in before downloading starts. Is that perhaps an underlying issue itself? Also, I have my avast antivirus program as well as spybot doing their resident protection stuff running while trying to download the drivers. could this perhaps be one of the issues? I’m willing to try most anything, as spending 30-50 bucks on a second camera for video related stuff just doesn’t sit well with me. Please, ladies and gentlemen, if there are any other suggestions or tips you have, send em here. I’m almost desperate. Thanks in advance, and thanks for the current suggestions thus far.
I have spent some time trying to replicate your current issues, I setup a virtual machine to test installation/uninstallation of the drivers in the environment you described.
I have noticed a few things you need to be careful with in order to successfullly install:
Here are simple steps to follow:
1. Please make sure you uninstall any existing version of the Ps3 Eye drivers
2. Remove your Camera if plugged in
3. Plug in your Camera
- If you have successfully removed previous version of driver the Windows Add/Remove New Hardware Wizard Will Appear!
4. DO NOT CANCEL the Windows Add/Remove New Hardware Wizard
DO NOT USE the Windows Add/Remove New Hardware Wizard to install drivers either
- If you CANCEL the Windows Add/Remove New Hardware Wizard, this seems to cause a ‘Download TimeOut’ error
to occur when installing the CL-EYE Driver
5. Dowload and install the latest CL-Eye Platform Driver from http://codelaboratories.com/downloads/
NOTE! - For XP installation: You MUST Leave the Camera Plugged in, do not remove it!
6. Once the CL-Eye Platform Driver has successfully installed, the Windows Add/Remove New Hardware Wizard will disappear
automatically
7. Test the camera using the CL-EYE test program.
- If it does not work correctly, you need to uninstall the CL-Eye Platform Driver and just to be extra sure,
Check the Hardware Device manager and see if there is any ‘USB COMPOSITE DEVICE’ entries under ‘Universal Serial Bus
Controller’. If there is, right click it and uninstall it. and then Repeat from step 2 above
It seems that the telnet command prompt test I gave you was succesfull.
Once you do this, If you get a blank screen with a flashing underscore on the top left of the screen, this means you can successfully connect to the download server that the installer uses.
I forgot to mention that once you telnet connect to the server sucessfully , the only way to exit is to Close the Command Promt window.
Because you can succesfullly connect to the server, it must still be something blocking just the Installer Program from acccesing the internet.
You say that you have disable your windows and router firewall, but not Avast and Spybot resident protection…..
You should completly disable both of these Software because they work by blocking internet access to certain Programs or installers.
They could be causing this. They are basically another form of a firewall against running programs.
Please make sure you completly turn off and exit all your firewall, anti Virus, program control and Resident Protection programs you have installed on your machine and then follow the steps in previous post.
Have you any other Firewall/AntiVirus/AntiMalware Programs installed?
Alright, I tried your new suggestions, and still produce the exact same results. I think I have the old driver fully uninstalled, but I can’t seem to be sure, as when I start the installer, it tells me it’s uninstalling previous versions. I’ve checked through the device manager several times, and still don’t see the camera popping up, but maybe it’s in the drivers directory itself. Honestly though, My computer itself has been very tempermental since I picked it up, and I think it’s about time I just gave up on using it as is and start it anew. Thank you for all the help you’ve given, and when I re-format the entire system and OS, maybe with windows 7, I’ll come back here and try this again.
