Hi,

I have a little idea - plugging two (more in the future - when true-multicam driver will be released) ps3 eye cameras into one usb 3.0 controller. Since usb 3.0 has ten times the bandwidth of usb 2.0 it should be possible to plug few cameras to one controller and get full-color 60-75 fps VGA stream without freezing and dropping frames. Maybe someone has access to usb 3.0-equipped PC and possibility to check it? I would be very grateful.

Best regards,
Futhark

I guess for that the camera needs to suport the USB 3 protocol..which it doesn’t (?)

USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0.

sure, but i think you can’t “divide” one USB3 port into 10 USB2 ports with full USB2 bandwidth…
the entire port has to be set to USB2 compatibility mode, thus allowing only USB2 bandwidth.

But you’re not 100% sure that this is impossible! And I’m not talking about 10 cams plugged to one controller but 2 for now, maybe 4 in the future (it depends on multicam driver). So it would be great if someone with usb3-equipped PC/notebook could check this out.

haha, i know that you didn’t mean 10 smile

but if 2 or 4 works then it hast to work for 10 by definition..if the bandwidth is 10 times bigger
and no, i’m not 100% sure…so there is hope ^^

this is exactly what i thought when i read the first usb. 3.0 reviews - im using two ps3 eyes for my DSI setup and thought about buying two usb 3.0 controllers for each ps3 cam.

e.g.
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/WebPage/mb_usb3_card/mb-usb3-card.htm

i dont know exactly where but ive read in a review that some 2.0 external HDDs had higher throughput on 3.0 ports.

teh question is if this is also true for the ps3 eyes…. or even possible?

what do the experts think ?
